READ: Love In The Moon

Love in the moon Nwunye,

for schoolgirls spoonful

It is a shred of dream, on

the hunchback of a

far-flung hill

Scaling our shadows, from

morning till evening—-

Dreaming in a dream,

twilight dripping oil

I searched for yesterday in

my bushbag

I found it gone through the

burrow of a rat

Only ashes of memories

Telling me they’re sorry—-

Piercing breasts like the nib of an eagle

Bowing to time, like the fallen

head of a dead man—-

Lips of yesterday’s promises,

furrowed faces chewing bitter cuds

Loathsome feelings, buzzing flies

in a tin of sour milk.
